Maureen "Momo" Freehill, MFA has over 30 years experience as a performer, educator & director of Embodied Arts and is recognized internationally for her innovative ways of crafting intercultural & intermodal performance as a vehicle for personal & global awakening. As Artistic Director of MomoButoh Dance Company she created the YearOfButoh project (www.dailydance.net) making a butoh dance performance & film every day for 17 months. She is a LifeArtMastery Instructor and Personal Mentor for DailyDance™ & butoh practice internationally (www.lifeartmastery.com); her work has been seen & studied across the globe including appearances at Butoh Festivals in Seattle, Vancouver BC, California, North Carolina, Colorado & Dublin. She holds an MFA in Directing Asian Performance (U of HI) and is a certified Hypnotherapist & Yoga Teacher specializing in Ariel Yoga. She began her deepest LifeArt inquiry in 1994 when she met, studied, performed & eventually toured with her primary teacher Kazuo Ohno, including more than 5 years living in Japan. She continued further training & performance projects with Yoshito Ohno, Anna Halprin, Madame Shen Xiomei (Bejing Opera), Hideo Kanze (Noh), Katsura Kan, Koichi & Haruko Tamano, Kitaro (Musician), Haruko Nishimura of Degenerate Art Ensemble, PAN, Akira Kasai, Joan Laage, Pina Bausch Company members, Diego Pinon & Tadashi Endo among many others. Maureen directed a Seattle College Theater Department, has been Artist in Residence & presented butoh trainings at many USA Universities; is an active member of DAIPANButoh Collective that produces the Seattle Butoh Festival; and founded a 700+ member international on-line network for butoh enthusiasts. Maureen is now Artistic & Founding Director of Butopia: Pacific Northwest Center for Embodied Arts in Nature where she designed & built the 11-sided Sanctuary Of Moving Arts (SOMA) (www.butopia.org) that opened for Artist Residencies, Personal Retreats, Land Based Trainings & Performances on 11/11/11 on Whidbey Island, WA near Seattle.
