Event Description

Filmmakers: in this competitive environment, are you getting the most out of every shot?

In this hands-on workshop, learn camera techniques to achieve the film look on an indie budget. In this day and age, even the frugal-lest film crews use grip gear like gimbals and sliders for smooth camera movement, but because of lack of training, some directors only end up creating fancy shots that take away from the story.

In 2017, Director Steven De Castro developed this class while teaching African filmmakers in three universities in Ghana. These African students learned effective camera movement techniques in a nearly zero-budget environment, and now you can, too. Employing the methods of the legendary British film instructor Roy Thompson, Steve will guide you through the theory of motivated camera movement through exercises and onscreen examples.

New York City's 7th annual Winter Film Awards International Film Fest runs February 22-March 3 2018. Check out our jam-packed lineup of 93 fantastic films in all genres from 31 countries, including Animation, Drama, Comedy, Thriller, Horror, Documentary and Music Video.
