DESCRIPTION:Beginning in 1923, with the yearly residencies of Diaghile
 v's Ballets Russes, ballet in the form of total art works--productions
  that equally emphasize choreography, music, and design--has been as c
 losely associated with Monte Carlo as its glamorous casinos. Les Balle
 ts de Monte-Carlo, the company that currently calls the city home and 
 that makes its Joyce Theater debut in February, was founded in 1985 by
  the Princess of Hanover in accordance with the wishes of her late mot
 her, Monaco's Princess Grace (the former film star Grace Kelly).\nThe 
 company’s Joyce program (Feb 15-19) consists of two works by artisti
 c director Jean-Christophe Maillot: Opus 40 (music by Meredith Monk, s
 ets and costumes by George Condo) and Altro Canto Part I (music by Cla
 udio Monteverdi, Girolamo Kasberger, and Biagio Marini; sets by Rolph 
 Sachs; costumes by Karl Lagerfeld). This Dance Talks, led by dance wri
 ter Mindy Aloff, will introduce both ballets, provide some background 
 on their collaborators, and sketch the balletic history during the pas
 t nine decades of Monte Carlo, the city that also gives its name to on
 e of the wards of the Principality of Monaco.\n\nFeb 6, 6-8pm\n\nIf a
