The Kathak Ensemble & Friends is thrilled to be included for a second year in teatroIATI's Performing Arts Marathon. As Lower East Side Manhattan's resident Kathak classical north Indian dance company since 1978, the company has created and performed fifteen full-evening productions, in addition to teaching technique classes and giving arts-in-education presentations throughout New York City's five boroughs for over thirty years. On July 11, 2010, at 2pm and 5pm in the 64 East 4th Street Theater, the Ensemble presents DANCING STORIES : Myths and Legends from India. The Ensemble performs examples of stories from the Hindu temple, from under the village banyan tree and finally from the Bollywood movie stage. Highlighting the extraordinarily rich pure dance and storytelling vocabulary of the Indian dance style Kathak whose name literally means STORY, this production dazzles with jewel-tone costumes, flashing jewelry and brilliant dancing.
