Rama Vaidyanathan is one of the leading interpreters of Bharata Natyam, the great classical dance form of South India characterized by complex footwork, abstract movements, and elaborate mime. A disciple of the legendary dancer Yamini Krishnamurty and Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan, Rama has evolved her own distinctive style that is deeply rooted in tradition. She is one of the most sought after dancers of her generation, lauded for her exquisite performances over the past 20 years. In this program, which marks her New York debut, she will be accompanied by a live ensemble.
