Author and ethnomusicologist Joshua Pilzer will talk about his recently published book, Hearts of Pine, a narrative account of the lives of three Korean survivors of the "comfort women" system - those bound into sexual slavery for the Japanese military during the war. The author will share the music and memories he heard over the course of the ten years he spent working, eating, and singing with these elderly women, trying to understand and document their worlds of song which had served as their coping mechanism.
