Event Description

A local tradition of Hindustani raga has existed in Kabul since the 1860s, when Amir SherAli Khan brought a number of classically trained musicians from India to perform at his court. The present-day avatar of this tradition is Homayun Sakhi, the greatest Afghanrubab player of his generation. This concert pairs Homayun Sakhi and his Afghan rubabwith sarod player Ken Zuckerman, the leading disciple of the late Ali Akbar Khan, and a consummate master in his own right. They will be joined by the young Afghan tablavirtuoso Salar Nader, a student of Zakir Hussain.

There will be a free pre-performance lecture by Theodore Levin, Arthur R. Virgin Professor of Music, Dartmouth College, at 7:00 pm.
