OOLIM: Hyojin Kang Gayageum Recital

Hyojin Kang, one of Korea’s most celebrated gayageum (Korean folk zither) virtuosos and a member of the National Gugak Center in Korea, will make her U.S. recital debut. This recital entitled OOLIM, meaning echo in Korean, will introduce colorful echo sounds of paulownia tree that gayageum is made of. Kang will present her world premiere solo for 25-stringed gayageum, traditional compositions including Korean court music, Buddhist Prayer, The Haunted Tree by Byung-Gi Hwang, Korea’s foremost gayageum player, and Gayageum Sanjo. Joined by Woonjung Sim (jang-gu) and Juhyun Sa (haegeum), Kang will also perform modern improvisations.
