OPEN STAGE: "Kkun’s – Master Players" by Dongrak Performing Arts Group

“Experience the beauty of traditional Korean song, dance, and rhythm!”

Dongrak Performing Arts Group from Korea presents the country’s master players called “Kkun,” who embody the essence of Korean traditional music and dance rarely seen in one place. From the fast rhythmic hwimori and highly entertaining buna (spinning dishes) to drum dance and ritual music, audiences will be entertained and engaged in the performance that draws out the full range of human emotions.

Yeon-Hee is an artistic genre of traditional Korean folk theater and dance that use ‘Yeomin Dongrak’ in its choreography. ‘Yeomin Dongrak’ refers to the free-flowing dance movements that originated from our ancestors who went against the tradition and hierarchy that ruled Korea in the past. Dongrak Performing Arts Group (Dongrak Yeon-Hee Dan in Korean) is a performing arts group that was founded under the auspices of the CROWN HaiTai company and its group members include many initiators of Important Intangible Cultural Properties in the performing arts as designated by UNESCO.

“KKUN’S – MASTER PLAYERS” by Dongrak Performing Arts Group is presented by Korean CulturalService NY in partnership with Flushing Town Hall.
