World Music Institute presents
APR 6, Saturday, 8pm
Nrityagram’s
Surupa Sen & Bijayini Satpathy
With its sculpturesque forms, sinuous movements, and emotional intensity, Odissi—one of the oldest dance traditions in the world, speaks of love and union with the divine. Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy, the principal dancers of India’s famed Nrityagram dance troupe, transport us to enchanted worlds of magic and spirituality with their grace and power. New York debut of Samyoga (Sanskrit: conjunction of two heavenly bodies), a program of solos and duets set to an original live score composed by Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi.
“I have never been as convinced of the presence of the divine within us as much as I have when watching...the masterful work of Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy.”
