Event: Taikoza is presenting a Taiko celebration at Symphony Space with guests from Japan and Hawaii. A Global celebration of this powerful music that Taikoza led by director Marco Lienhard will present new compositions as well as traditional pieces in this anniversary concert. Special guests: Ichiro Jishoya and Shuji Komagata.

This will be another memorable evening full of exciting rhythms performed on these ancestral drums featuring a 6 foot-drums colorful dances and soulful Shakuhachi music. Taikoza celebrates the 150 anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Switzerland and Japan with Swiss born music director Marco Lienhard presenting a unique and powerful concert of Japanese music. Music that transcends borders and unites people.

Taikoza, Japanese Taiko Drummers are back at Symphony Space for an amazing evening of exciting drumming and colorful dances featuring the unique and their powerful six-foot Taiko drum. Taikoza hits the stage with a high-energy performance of traditional and original Japanese tunes featuring flutes and an amazing array of ancestral Taiko drums. For this special autumn concert, Taikoza will feature Ichiro Jishoya in his first NYC appearance. He is considered one of the top Taiko players in Japan. Ichiro Jishoya was recently featured in the documentary Drum Out the Drum of Happiness - Inclusion. This concert will be a unique chance to experience Jishoya's very energetic and youthful energy on the Taiko.





Experience the thunderous rhythms of the ancestral Japanese Taiko drums and the magical sounds of the bamboo flutes. Hear the 100 lb. Taiko drum; give thunderous voice to traditional and new compositions. Roughly translated, Taiko means big drums-and that’s exactly what Taikoza brings. Big Drums, powerful rhythms, and electrifying, room-thumping energy. This exciting group draws from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance to create a highly visual performance. With colorful traditional costumes and dynamic motion, Taikoza’s shows are immensely popular with audiences of all ages.


This performance is made possible in part by funds East Winds, Inc. and in part with public funds from the Lower  Manhattan Cultural Council and public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
