The prestigious Shanghai Kunju Troupe invited from China will present two different programs of kunqu classics to celebrate the 10th anniversary of kunqu’s designation as a masterpiece of “the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2001.

 

Program

On June 25, the Shanghai Kunju Troupe will perform The Palace of Eternal Youth, a play that weaves political corruption and military revolts into the legendary love story of Emperor Minghuang and Lady Yang of the Tang dynasty in an epic scope.

 

On June 26, the Shanghai Kunju Troupe will perform "Four Kunqu Classics" from four different plays that showcase the talents and art of the troupe’s outstanding performers of various role types. Their performances range from delicate, poetic singing and movement to breathtaking acrobatic stunts.

Members, Seniors and Students: Will receive $5 off the ticket prices. We will check your identity on the day of the performance when you pick up your ticket(s).
