AmeriCares and its relief workers in Japan are working on aid convoys to Sendai to help survivors of the record 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami as conditions in shelters worsen and radiation concerns continue to hamper relief efforts. AmeriCares is sending a large shipment of basic hygiene items originating in Japan for urgent delivery to shelters in Miyagi and Iwate to aid some of the hundreds of thousands of survivors who cannot return home. In addition to building a relief convoy for Sendai, AmeriCares is expanding its team on the ground and setting up an office in Tokyo to coordinate their relief efforts.
