Event Description

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre presents the company’s annual gala fundraiser and performance, White Night 2017, on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 7pm at Reflections Center for Conscious Living & Yoga, 227 E. 24th Street, NYC.

White Night 2017 will offer audiences an intimate sneak preview of Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre’s newest work Refuge; and opportunity to get to know the dancers, designers, board members, and company teaching artists.  The evening includes a dinner of small plates by celebrity guest chefs Sammy Voit, Master Chef Junior, Chopped Junior, and Food Network Star Kids and Sal Soldo, Food Network Star Kids.  Patrons will enjoy short performances, cooking demonstrations by the celebrity chefs, interactive dance workshops, a silent auction, and more. Attendees will make a difference this winter by supporting dance performance and dance education.

Tickets are $150, and patron tickets are $500; available at

Refuge: When seeking personal refuge, we go deep inside ourselves and begin an internal journey of transformation and enlightenment. Selwyn translates this personal journey into a vocabulary of immediate, athletic, sensuous, and raw movement that has come to define her work. The piece includes a progressive series of solos and duets punctuated by group sections that magnify the personal experience into a shared one.

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre creates original and dynamic dance theatre that raises questions, challenges social norms and values, and magnifies humanity through dance. Productions pivot around core themes and through an interplay between athletic and pedestrian motion, activate emotional expression, character, and narrative in a rich and abstract collage. Presenting dance in an immediate, mature, and inclusive way, we engage audiences from start to finish and beckon a response of thought, feeling, and soul.

Founded in 2000, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre has presented over 30 productions at NYC venues including Tribeca Performing Arts Center, New York Live Arts, Dance Theatre Workshop, Dance New Amsterdam, Danspace Project, Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Kumble Theater, and John Jay College. We have been presented twice at Jacob’s Pillow, Westfest, DUMBO Dance Festival, Dixon Place, Dance Teacher Summit, COOL NY, Movement Research, and Pushing Progress Series. We have toured to festivals, presented open rehearsals, interactive performance events and workshops, and offer arts-in-education programming through Notes in Motion Outreach Dance Theatre to children in the NYC public schools.
