Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Announces Swing Space 2013: Open Call for Applications

A program of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Swing Space is a project-based residency that finds workspace for visual and performing artists and arts groups working to develop new projects. Since 2005, the initiative has placed over one thousand artists in more than twenty different locations in Lower Manhattan and on Governors Island. LMCC is currently accepting applications for placement during 2013.

Swing Space is open to visual and performing artists and arts groups that are working at a professional level and have at least three years of experience in their respective field. National and international artists are eligible to apply. Selected applicants are expected to relocate to the New York City metropolitan area for the duration of the residency. (Please note that LMCC offers workspace, not living space. If accepted, national and international residents are responsible for their own visa, travel, living, and housing expenses and arrangements.)

Organizations and groups that are not based in the arts (e.g., religious, educational ,or charitable groups) are not eligible. Artists who will matriculate as students at any level during the residency session also are ineligible. Selected applicants may not participate in a concurrent residency while participating. Past participants in LMCC's Artist Residency Programs (Swing Space, Workspace, Process Space, SPARC, Paris Residency) may not be selected for any program in any two consecutive calendar years.

The program will award approximately forty visual arts residencies and twenty-five performing arts residences. Applicants will be selected according to a range of criteria, including artistic merit and professional record, quality of the proposed project, and significance of the residency for professional and artistic development.

Complete program guidelines, residency details, and application procedures are available at the LMCC Web site here.
