Call for Arts Producers: Queens Council on the Arts (QCA)

Have you ever wondered how a new play or dance comes into existence?

Queens Council on the Arts (QCA) is pleased to announce the launch of the Artist Commissioning Program (ACP), to support Queens artists to create new, original works of art for theatre, dance and music.

QCA is looking for people with a passion for the arts to be selected as Art Producers for the Artist Commissioning Program, generously funded by the Scherman Foundation’s Rosin Fund.

As Art Producers, you will:

  • Be part of a commissioning process and experience the creative process of an artist
  • Support Queens artists who create inclusive new performance works that reflect authentic, diverse cultural backgrounds and stories
  • Become part of a new arts support culture of Queens artists, patrons and audiences
  • Grow widespread recognition of Queens as a place where artists are supported to contribute works to the American canon

This is a rare opportunity to create a growing legacy of commissioning 4 artists (a playwright, choreographer or composer) who will receive $10,000 each to create new works from the artists’ initial vision to the world premiere, for the benefit of new American audiences.

Queens is the most diverse county in the United States where over 175 languages are spoken daily. Artists from diverse communities in Queens are challenged economically and socially to create meaningful work that reflect other cultural influences and building audiences for this work.

If we want cultural diversity in the American canon, we need to support artists to create work that reflects the racial and cultural mix of our communities.

More information and Art Producer Applications can be found on the QCA website:

All applications are due by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
