Call For Proposals: 2018 Directors’ Weekends, Women Center Stage

Women Center Stage is proud to bring back the Women Center Stage Festival October 1st through October 31st, 2018.

They are seeking proposals from women identified directors for their three upcoming Directors’ Weekends:

October 6-7

October 13-14

October 20-21

At the core of Women Center Stage will be our next iteration of our unique and successful Directors’ Weekend, in which twelve directors are invited to create 15-30 minute pieces on a prompt and present them in a single evening over the course of three weekends. This year’s director-driven pieces should use theatre in a unique way to address a pressing socio-political issue in your community or in our nation, particularly issues of immigration, presidential impeachmentcriminal justice reform, and racism.

Some questions your work might consider in the development of your work:

  1. What is theatre/arts unique intervention in today’s most pressing socio-political issues?
  2.  What can theatre do in times of political crisis?
  3. How can theatre be used to inspire civic participation and political action?
  4. How can theatre help imagine new alternatives?
  5. How can theatre lay the groundwork for change?

Work can be completely original, an interpretation of a classic, music based, dance-based, or anything in between. Special consideration will be given to theatre pieces that go beyond the four walls of traditional theater spaces. Selected proposals will be presented in a festival format during Women Center Stage Festival. Women and trans/gender nonconforming directors of all experiences and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Selected directors will receive $400 for their project in addition
to tech time and performance space.

Please send a cover letter, resume and one-page proposal discussing your project including the issue it addresses and how you are tackling some of the questions above and your resume to Ashley Marinaccio at directorsweekendWCS@gmail.com. Please note any conflicts you might have with the following schedule in your cover letter.
Submissions should be received no later than Saturday, September 16th at 5:00 pm.
