Apex for Youth Needs Volunteers
to Help 4th Graders in the Lower East Side!
Volunteer to teach 4th Grade Prep
at one of Apex for Youth’s partner schools in the Lower East Side.
The program takes place on Saturdays from 10am-12pm and consists of ten sessions this fall.
The Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) statewide test taken by all fourth grade students determines their placement into middle school. Many students are failing to achieve optimal scores due to a lack of individualized attention during the regular school day.
Apex for Youth’s 4th Grade Prep program teaches test taking strategies and increases the confidence of the students, enabling them to achieve the best possible results on their exams. The skills taught in the 4th Grade Prep Program, instill positive traits that translate outside the classroom and throughout their academic careers.
Last year, only 48% of the entering 4th graders tested proficient in English and 61% in Math. After 4th Grade Prep, 60% became proficient in English and 80% in Math.
You can make a huge difference in their lives.
No prior experience necessary.
To apply, please contact Ji Yeon Yi at ji-yeon.yi@apex-ny.org or (212) 748-1225 ext. 105 for more information.
