POSITION: FESTIVAL INTERN
Duration of internship: Jan – May 2012 (15 to 20 hours/week)
Asian American Arts Alliance (a4) is seeking a festival program intern for its groundbreaking Locating The Sacred Festival, which will take place from September 12- 23, 2012 and include 20 events in all five boroughs. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in gaining experience in creating community-building initiatives on a citywide scale. Responsibilities:
Work closely with Festival Coordinator on all aspects of program development, including:
- Organizing festival applications and liaising with applicants
- Helping prepare and run the application review panel
- Preparing a roster of successful applicants for potential spaces to review
- Answering questions from artists, spaces and others interested in the festival
- Researching additional potential festival spaces
- Assisting with match-making between artists and spaces
- Gathering marketing materials from festival participants for Web site and brochure
- Seeking out additional outreach partners and other avenues for promotion
- Assisting with outreach and logistics of core a4 programs, including the monthly Town Hall gathering and the Brainstorm! workshop series
Qualifications / experience:
- Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have ability to prioritize, anticipate and work efficiently
- Must know MS Office Suite (Word, Excel); knowledge of other communications-related programs is helpful (e.g. InDesign, QuarkXpress, iMovie, Photoshop etc)
- Must be able to work well in a small team environment
- Strong demonstrated interest in the arts, the Asian American community and/or the goals of the organization preferred
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school program preferred, but others in career transition welcome
Time Commitment:
- 2 to 3 days a week
- Available from end of January to mid-May
- Possibility of extending the internship through the summer and fall
Compensation:
- $500 stipend for the semester
- Credit on festival Web site and brochure (25,000 copies printed)
