Asian American Arts Alliance

Seeking: Asian Americans for 4-Day Portrait Painting Session

Seeking: Asian American COUPLES / SIBLINGS / FAMILIES / GROUPS for 2-4 Day Portrait Painting Session (New York City)

SEEKING: I am currently looking for Asian American community members/models - in particular: COUPLES, SIBLINGS, FAMILY MEMBERS, GRANDPARENTS, GROUPS OF FRIENDS etc - who would be willing to sit for a portrait painting session anytime this fall (September, October, November, December).

*Timing: Depending on the size of the canvas, completing this painting may consist of up to 4 consecutive days of sitting in my art studio (for only 4-5 hours a day).

*Location: My art studio is located in the West Harlem area of Manhattan ~ closest subway is 125th Street on the 1 Train, and my art studio is only 1 block away from the station.

*Compensation: $20/hour (Venmo or Cash)

REQUIREMENTS:
Models are required to have the patience to sit for 4-5 hours.

We take breaks in between, and you can listen to your iPod/watch Netflix during the session.
Please note, despite breaks, that this is still a professional gig.

All ages considered for this project (kids, adults, elderly, etc).
Preferably available during weekdays and/or weekends.

IF INTERESTED:
Please email sc4143@columbia.edu, alongside some photos of yourself (this is helpful) and landscapes that inspire you or are significantly meaningful to you (optional, but very helpful).
I will also provide more answers to any logistical questions for the portrait painting session.
Thank you so much for your kind support to help my art project come to life!

SHARE THIS GIG: Please also feel free to forward this to any friends who might be interested, especially families who are supportive of the arts and/or Asian American organizations.

ABOUT ME: I am currently a Master of Fine Arts Painting/Visual Arts candidate at Columbia University School of the Arts in my final year. This fall, I will be painting a series of 3 large portraits of specifically Asian/Asian-Americans living in NYC. I question the idea of visibility/invisibility in relation to the identity politics of being Asian American. Recently, I've been thinking a lot about the lack of Asian American representation in paintings within our Western art institutions, and/or creative media.
My paintings can be found here: https://susanmbchen.com/

Thanks so much for your kind consideration in advance!
