Visiting Assistant Professor in Costume Design


Position Description: Full-time, nine month, non-tenure accruing faculty position.

Date of Expected Hire: August 16, 2018

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full benefits package.


Responsibilities:   This position shares leadership in maintaining and advancing the costume design and technology program. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Costume Design, Costume History, and/or co-teaching of the graduate Design Studio course. Additional responsibilities include mentorship of student designers in the costuming of the School’s active season of productions which include theatre, dance and musical theatre; and participation in the organizational and administrative activities in the Design/Production area.


Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate an active record of achievement in costume design and possess a terminal degree in costume design or equivalent professional experience.


Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will also bring to the position:

  • Demonstrated teaching experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Continuing professional activity in regional, national or international venues that proves to hold a consistent pattern of quality and artistic merit.
  • Evidence of a commitment to collaboration, diversity, and excellence in the arts in higher education.  
  • Strong organizational, management and communication skills
