Why is the multiracial Asian/Hapa community still invisible in mainstream society?

I'm the founder of HapaVoice.com, a photo blog and awareness project that aims to unite and raise awareness of multiracial Asian identity. I'd love to hear your thoughts on why awareness of the Hapa community is still virtually nonexistent outside of college campuses and select metro areas on the West coast.

How could that be?

I know Kamiko Hahn is a Hapa & she is a well-known poetess in mainstream community. She became well-known since 1974 and had taught @ Yale where presently she is @ Queens College. I just saw her read to a packed audience @ NYU's magazine reception for "Black Renaissance" which I is a very slick literary.
magazine. Besides she has several books published by Coffee House Press.
