Anna Moench is a playwright, puppeteer, and theater-maker. She is currently a member of The Public Theater’s 2010 Emerging Writers Group, a New Georges Affiliated Artist, and a member of Youngblood, Ensemble Studio Theatre’s resident collective of playwrights under 30. Anna’s full-length plays include THE PILLOW BOOK, IN QUIETNESS, and GREAT EASTERN (EST/Sloan Commission). Her plays have been produced in venues such as Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Flea, Dixon Place, The Looking Glass Theatre, the New York International Fringe Festival, Spoke The Hub, The Space, and a kitchen in Connecticut. She has developed work all over the country at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference, the Sewanee Writers' Conference, The Great Plains Theater Conference, New Dramatists, The Inkwell, Mind The Gap Productions, and the Assembly's TASTE Series at the Abingdon Theater Complex. Awards include the Jerome Foundation's 2009 Travel and Study Grant, the Tennessee Williams Scholarship (Sewanee Writers' Conference), first place in Spoke The Hub's 2009 Winter Follies, and selection for the Old Vic's inaugural T.S. Eliot US/UK Exchange.
In addition to her work as a playwright, Anna is Co-Artistic Director of anna&meredith, a cross-disciplinary performance company whose work forms creative bridges between playwriting and choreography. In 2006, Anna graduated from Wesleyan University, where her thesis work on object theater garnered high honors and an invitation to lecture at Johns Hopkins University. Anna has ridden over 3000 miles on her 10-speed bicycle.
