In your own words, what is your ethnic identity? (for individuals)
I am a first generation Thai American.
Your Artistic Background/Mission
My filmmaking practice, drawing heavily from my experience in documentary as well as music video, is informed by my cultural upbringing between the United States and Thailand. After graduating from the University of Washington in Seattle with a degree in film studies and anthropology, I moved to New York City to work at the video hosting site Vimeo and then as a freelancer and production assistant at the web agency m ss ng p eces. I returned to Chiang Mai in 2013, where I spent time as a volunteer and workshop instructor at Documentary Arts Asia, a nonprofit aimed at bringing agency and exposure to Asia-based media artists. In 2015, I earned the Emerging Artist Fellowship at the Jacob Burns Film Center. I am currently part of the production team at World Famous in Seattle as a film editor, while working independently on personal projects geared towards documentary and mixed media.
Your Creative Influences
I am drawn in equal parts by western filmmakers in the mainstream and independent realms - Jonathan Glazer and David Fincher, to name a couple - as well as eastern visionaries like my fellow Thai Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki.
If you are not in New York City, what are your ties to New York's Asian American artistic community?
My work is created/shown/produced in NYC regularly
