Your Artistic Background/Mission
Hansel Tan recently moved to New York City, having graduated with high honors in music from Wesleyan University. Hailing from Singapore, Hansel is no stranger to the theatrical scene, having worked professionally as an award-winning actor locally and internationally with companies as diverse as the Singapore Repertory Theatre, Fly Entertainment (SG), W!LDRICE Theatre Company (SG), Maple Giant Theatre (UK), MB Productions (UK), Oxford Triptych Theatre (UK), 13th St Repertory Theater Company (NY) and The Assembly (NY) just to name a few. Besides acting, Hansel is an experienced vocal coach and music director, and has coached children and actors alike in healthy voice technique and ensemble skills. An alumni of the acclaimed Singapore Youth Choir, ACJC Choir and Oxford Schola Cantorum, Hansel co-founded and directed the Wesleyan Ensemble Singers earlier this Spring, and is now a proud member of New York's own Canticum Novum under the directorship of Harold Rosenbaum. In 2008, Hansel was awarded the Singapore National Arts Council Overseas Award (Music & Theatre), and is a 2009 Straits Times Theatre Award Nominee for "Best Ensemble" in W!LDRICE's production of "Own Time, Own Target" produced for the 2nd OCBC-W!LDRICE Singapore Theatre Festival.
