Art Bazaar- Featuring work by Haruto Robert at Lyons Wier Gallery

August 18, 2010 to August 22, 2010
I'll once again be participating in the upcoming Art Bazaar at the Lyons Wier Gallery. This was an awesome event the last time I did it, so I'm proud to be doing it again. There are many great emerging artists, and I'll have some of my new work on display, all created using my "brush fire" technique. (Brush Fire refers to the medium I've created where I use a torch to burn images into canvas.) I've also created a new work, JapAm, which is a combination of the Japanese and American Flag.Opening…See More

Haruto Robert at The Art Bazaar- “Midsummer Art Bazaar” at Lyons Wier Gallery at Lyons Wier Gallery

July 23, 2010 at 6pm to July 25, 2010 at 8pm
Works by Haruto Robert will be on display at The Art Bazaar's "Midsummer Art Bazaar" at the Lyons Wier Gallery.Established in 2009 as a response to the limited amount of exhibition opportunities available to artists in New York, The Art Bazaar was envisioned as a “grass roots initiative”, providing artists with a unique opportunity to step up and promote their work. The Art Bazaar has been heralded by The New York Times as a “great social experiment,” and “brilliant” by Flavorwire for its open…See More

Parlour Games (a FREE dance series) at Various historic Brooklyn buildings

April 17, 2010 at 5pm to June 20, 2010 at 7pm
A FREE Brooklyn dance series, Parlour Games addresses our current culture of entertainment by investigating Victorian parlor games of the late 19th century. These games were often unruly and risqué - created as cultural outlets for aggression, sexual tension, and other departures from civilized etiquette. This work will be performed in private homes, public spaces, and venues all around Brooklyn April-June 2010. In your own words, what is your ethnic identity? (for individuals)
I draw my concepts from my experiences being a bi-cultural (father is Japanese, mother is American of Irish/German descent) "Third Culture Kid," who grew up around the world.
Your Artistic Background/Mission
I use double entendre's (I love to incorporate clever word-play) and ideas to relate to my audience, not just culturally but emotionally and esthetically as well. This allows for a broad audience to have a personal and intimate relationship with my work.

As an artist, my aim is to bring people together through their differences; an issue I have dealt with personally all of my life.
Your Creative Influences
My artistic inspiration comes to me from all angles, anytime, day or night. A minor incident can spark a waterfall of ideas that floods my mind with thoughts, associations, and innovations. I love to experiment with different mediums, such as, coffee grounds, fire, spray-paint mixed with oil, and any other substance that inspires me. This openness to materials allows me to be innovative in the techniques I use; such as the "Brush Fire" technique I recently developed. In Brush Fire, I use a torch to burn images into and through my paintings, which was a huge success at my show at the Norwood Club in New York City.

Haruto, welcome to the Asian American Arts Alliance. If you are interested in meeting people in the community, the best place is Town Hall, which we do every month. The next one is planned for next Tuesday. Hope you can make it! http://alliancetownhall.eventbrite.com/
