Your Artistic Background/Mission
Jennifer Tam was born in 1989 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated with a BFA in May 2012 from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, MD with a double major in Painting and Art History, Criticism & Theory, and minors in Curatorial Studies and Book Arts. She makes graphic, representational paintings that fuse Eastern and Western art historial traditions in semi-autobiographical scenes. This work has helped her explore her Chinese heritage and come to terms with what being an Asian-American means. She is also an independent curator, having curated exhibitions at Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Thurgood Marshall Airport, Subbasement Artist Studios, and MICA. Her artwork itself has been featured in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and in her home state of Indiana.
