Kikuko Morimoto was born in Kobe, Japan. She began taking painting classes at an early age focusing on watercolor and oil painting. She studied film and painting at Osaka University of Art, California College of Arts, Columbia University and the Art Students League of New York. She worked for seven years as a director and a producer for a TV/Film production company and received numerous awards and scholarships for her paintings, short films, and videos.
Her paintings have been shown in a number of group exhibitions, in NY and Washington D.C.. She had her first solo show at No Eyes Viewing Wall (NEVW) Brooklyn Zen Center, NY, March 2014. She participated Affordable Art Fair Spring, New York in 2014. Some of her works are viewable at Artist’s Proof Gallery in Washington D.C.
Her 20 years of practicing meditation influence her art and her creative process.
Her art seeks to apply luminosity of color, light, and flow to the inner stillness she finds by meditating. Her inspiration and creativity are derived both from her personal inner space, but also from her surrounding world.
