Lana Cheng’s Artist Statement
I am captivated by Flora, Fauna, and the Fantastical. My art conveys that which is beautiful, mysterious, provocative, vibrant, and soulful. I am inspired by bold ideas and bold executions. As a young artist, seeing paintings by Van Gogh and Henri Rousseau had inspired me to paint.
My pleasure in creating comes from summoning the whimsical, the mysterious, the macabre, the sensual, and the fantastic into existence. The initial stage of sketching a new painting is the most exciting for me. Painting itself is an arduous but also ecstatic experience—one that’s ultimately rewarding as I bring ideas into fruition.
Some of my art offends. One might interpret some of my paintings as being provocative, or politically / socially unacceptable. An iconoclast, I am authentic in my interpretation of ideas and thoughts. Be it a simple flower or a Surrealistic image, I want my viewer to admire my original composition and to appreciate my execution of the subject matter.
