In your own words, what is your ethnic identity? (for individuals)
Chinese contemporary artist, immigrant artists
Your Artistic Background/Mission
Lily & Honglei (Xiying Yang, Honglei Li) work as a new media artist team. They come from Beijing, China, currently work in New York. Their solo exhibitions are held in Germany, China, Australia and United States. They actively present at many important international new media and contemporary art exhibitions and festivals, and deliver lectures and presentations at varied venues. Lily & Honglei’s projects utilize traditional painting techniques and digital imaging technologies including animation and virtual reality, to construct an aesthetic space reflecting Chinese cultural heritages and current social issues in context of globalization. Lily and Honglei both received MFA from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Your Creative Influences
Chinese traditional culture, including folklore, history, literature and visual art, greatly influence on our creativity. Digital technology becomes tool conveying our reflections on sociocultural phenomena. We strive to create work not only aesthetically enjoyable, but also inspiring audience to rethink our global society which eventually leads to actions making changes.
