Mariko Masaoka-Drew
Program and Communications Associate, Asian American Arts Alliance

I support all programs at the Asian American Arts Alliance, including grants, gatherings, research and new initiatives. I issue the E-Newsletter, manage a4Hub, produce Town Hall and "Produce It Yourself" events, coordinate membership, and enjoy working to keep the NYC and Asian American arts community vibrant and growing. With roots in San Francisco and New York, I am a dancer, choroegrapher, videographer and community organizer. I recently graduated with my MA from the Department of Performance Studies at New York University. I focused my final paper on collective transformation within ritual dance - in particular within NYC House Dance culture. My videography and scholarship has brought me to work with the Hemispheric Institute, Paper Tiger Television and the Manhattan Neighborhood Network. Choreography and dance have brought me into the circles of Brasileirando, Velly Bahia, Tai-Chi Chuan, Loco Bloco and FICA Capoiera. I am currently studying Guinea dance.
Your Creative Influences
My family and friends, music, those that came before us, organized group activities, bodies in motion, transformation through repetition and rhythm.
