Your Artistic Background/Mission
I am a filmmaker and writer based in NY. I’ve been producing social issue documentaries (mostly for PBS) and independent narrative films for the past decade. More recently, I've begun writing and directing new work. I am currently directing a trilogy of short documentaries about Indians in America. The first in this series, Indian Summer, is in educational distribution with the Center for Asian American Media, and will be part of the PBS online film festival in March 2013. I have also recently premiered the critically acclaimed multimedia performance Himalaya Song (about the Himalayas and climate change) at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival with collaborators Gingger Shankar and the Shanghai Restoraction Project.

I have been a grant recipient of the Urban Artist Initiative and of the Tribeca Film Institute, and have been selected to participate in the CPB/WGBH Producers Academy, the Tribeca Film Institute's All Access Program, and in the 2011 Open Doors co-production lab at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, which focused on contemporary Indian cinema.
Your Creative Influences
William Kentridge, Wong Kar-Wai, Jan Svankmajer, among many

Hello, Mridu! Hope this finds you well. I thought you might be interested in our event on Thursday night, "Produce It Yourself: Film Festivals". A great networking opportunity with curators and film festival directors, and a really interesting discussion on the "behind the scenes" of putting together a film festival. Here are all details: http://www.nycharities.org/events/EventLevels.aspx?ETID=3263

I hope you will join us!

Take care!

Nico
