In your own words, what is your ethnic identity? (for individuals)
I am a Chinese-American first generation immigrant residing in the US, born in Taiwan.
Your Artistic Background/Mission
I'm a director/cinematographer with a background in traditional studio arts, photography, filmmaking, and new media. My long-term creative goal is to tell stories with the most compelling medium. My current goal is to make a film that I wrote about a Chinese-American family's misadventure during a six-hour car ride through the Californian desert.
Your Creative Influences
In painting, I'm influenced English landscapes, Capriccio style paintings that connect architectural interiors, Ed Hopper, Alfonse Mucha, Caravaggio. In architecture, Le Corbusier's works and writing influence my spatial considerations. I write to the tunes of Schubert, Bartok, and all the Gustavo Santaolalla compositions. Films and filmmakers that have had the most impact on my life thus far include Michelangelo Antonioni, Agnes Varda, Wong Kar Wai, Hitchcock, Chris Marker, Anthony Minghella, and Hayao Miyazaki (though I'm sure I've left a few out by accident).
