In your own words, what is your ethnic identity? (for individuals)
I am of Chinese German & mexican descent, born and raised
in Tokyo.
Your Artistic Background/Mission
I worked in theater ( American Place Theater, New Dramatists to name a few) before I struck out as a self taught filmmaker. My awards include
Lawrence Kasdan Best Narrative Film Award, Grand Prize Chicks with Flicks, Golden Honu Best of the Fest Big Island FF, Philadelphia Asian FFest Official Selection FAVORITES, Sundance Film Lab Finalist, among others. My most recent
creative endeavor was a reading of my script THE SOLDIER set
in 1930's military Japan produced by AsianAmerican Film Lab and Wayne Chang which i'm pleased to share was a great success. I have happily just completed another draft and look
fwd to finding a home for it in NYC's theatrical community.
My mission is to continue to create works that are true to my own vision, sometimes provocative like my film THE LOVERS that dealt with the invasion of Nanking, and sometimes pure good fun like my award winning KUNG FU GRANNY starring the obie award winning one and only Ching Valdes Aran!
Your Creative Influences
To name a few : Roman Polanski, Alfred Hitchcock, Mikio Naruse, Franz Kafka, Harold Pinter, Truffaut,
Dostoevsky, Charles Ludlum & his Ridiculous Theater Company Fellini, Confessions of a Mask by Mishima, Patricia Highsmith,
old japanese cartoons and horror movies growing up in Tokyo..
