Throughout Chinese civilization, a rich musical culture flourished along the southern banks of the Yangtze River. Beginning in the Tang dynasty, the pipa travelled along the Silk Road from northwest China. When the pipa reached the Jiangnan region, its unique timbre blended with melodious southern music. Pipa virtuoso Zhou Yi of Ba Ban Chinese Music Society guides the audience through the music of southern China.
Just prior to the performance, participants will learn about Chinese music and the philosophy behind it. Participants will get hands-on experience with Chinese instruments.
