Event Description

Butoh is an avant-garde performance art form which originated in Japan in the 1950’s. Vangeline’s Butoh classes incorporate Japanese Butoh, Bio-energetics, core energetics, elements of Noguchi gymnastics, and guided imagery to offer a high-energy workshop adapted to each group’s level of physical fitness.

Vangeline has taught and choreographed Butoh in New York for the past thirteen years. This unique training is an invaluable tool for dancers, actors, adult beginners, encouraging participants to open up and expand physically and energetically. This workshop creates a gentle and supportive environment to start an individual and collective process of investigation through creative movement.

Our Butoh classes are by suggested donation, which means that no one will ever be turned down for lack of funds.

This Butoh class with Vangeline is the only consistent weekly butoh class/training offered in New York by donation.
