CELEBRATING ARMENIAN CULTURE

Musical Performance: 1915-2015 Truth & Hope

Ara Dinkjian on ‘Oud, accompanied by String Quartet & Tamer Pınarbaşı on Qanun

In commemoration of the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide, Alwan for the Arts and 3rd i NY present a special series showcasing the enduring arts and culture of the Armenians, who share a collective tragedy, and who have become an integral part and active voice in the tapestry of world cultures, specifically that of the Middle East and the Arab world, where distinct and complex Armenian communities have taken root and been nourished over the last century.

In this concert, renowned Armenian-American 'oudist and musician, Ara Dinkjian pays special tribute to the tribulations and reslience of the Armenian people with a new album of Armenian songs entitled “1915-2015 Truth & Hope”. Dinkjian, on 'oud, will be accompanied by a string quartet and guest musician, Tamer Pınarbaşı, on qanun.

The evening’s repertoire reflects on the Armenian Genocide. It includes songs of mourning, the resting of the souls of the departed, soldiers, and prayer, that are well-known Armenian folk songs, as well as Armenian sacred music, and pieces written and arranged by Ara Dinkjian.
