3 – 4PM

CrossCurrent is a concept that Nai-Ni Chen developed while working with her collaborating artists, many of whom bring their cultural heritage into their contemporary creations. Examining common experiences as bi-cultural artists living in the United States, Nai-Ni Chen observed that the journey to adapt to a different culture is long and full of joy and struggle. CrossCurrent is a presentation of a series of dances that communicate the journey of her cross-cultural experience, both physical and emotional. It involves a change of perception and a change of expectation. The dances she is creating attempt to communicate that delicate path that she and others cross every day, and the accumulation of the work becomes part of the culture. In the last two CrossCurrent presentations at Flushing Town Hall, Nai-Ni Chen partnered with a group of young musicians, the New Asia Chamber Music Society, and renowned composer Huang Ruo. In this new CrossCurrent offering, Nai-Ni Chen will showcase a series of work from the perspective of the development of her own craft, key choreographic challenges and successes.

Ticket price for this event is $16 for general public and $10 for members of Flushing Town Hall, seniors and students.
