Our film series honoring the late Donald Richie continues with Mitsuo Yanagimachi‘s rarely-screened Himatsuri (1985),an enormously lush and mysterious film revolving around a gruff lumberjack’s refusal to sell his land in the green mountains of Kumano and his ensuing battle with the forces of nature.
