Kundiman - Creative Writing/Filmmaking Classes for API Youth

May 24 – May 30, 2014
10 – 10PM

Kundiman is offering a FREE weekend intensive of creative writing/documentary filmmaking classes to Asian American youth in partnership with our Kavad: Mother Tongues project.

Through Mother Tongues, Kundiman brings forward the poet as witness, historian, and social activist. Participants will interview their mothers and then respond creatively to these interviews through poetry. This program is of particular significance in that it not only employs ethnological modes of preserving Asian American history but also helps to re-create and re-invigorate our communities through creative work and community dialogue. More about the program can be found here.

There will be a culminating reading at Fordham University, Lincoln center showcasing portions of recorded interviews and creative work, in addition to an online archive housed on the Kundiman website. For a look a previous Kavad project, click here.
