8:30 – 9:30PM
CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) invites you to an ensemble reading of Life with my DAD, based on the play 父と暮せば, Chichi to Kuraseba by Hisashi Inoue. The reading will present a snapshot of the work of the twice-a-year ensemble theatre workshop held at CRS by Theatre Japan Productions, led by Kazuki Takase.

The reading will be performed by Frank Barrett, Akiko Hiroshima, Yukiko Miyawaki, Yasuhito Miyazono, and Kat Yew.

The story follows the conversations between a daughter, Mitsue, a survivor of the atomic bomb, and her father. She is a young librarian in Hiroshima, and she struggles with her guilt and anguish from the fact that she alone survived out of all her friends and relatives, including her father.

One day, a young man visits her library to study and find the artifacts of the atomic bombing. Mitsue and the young man become attracted to one another. But, when she thinks about people who died with the bomb, she feels guilty. Being asked to go out, she tries to refuse him, finding so many excuses. That night, her father tries to talk to her in an effort to open Mitsue’s heart.
