My Korean Deli Thursday May 12 6:30PM ~8:00PM The Korea Society On Thursday May 12, The Korea Society will host author Ben Ryder Howe to discuss his recently published memoir, My Korean Deli: Risking It All For A Convenience Store, and share the trials and triumphs of his Korean-born wife’s decision to repay her parents’ self-sacrifice by buying them a convenience store. Owning the deli becomes a transformative experience as the family struggles to salvage the original gift of family harmony while sorting out issues of values, work ethic, and identity. The evening will also be an informative look at Korean green grocers in New York with Queens College Professor Pyong Gap Min providing historical background and context to Howe’s story with USA Today writer Laura Vanderkam.
