Paz Tanjuaquio in "Silweta"
7 – 6PM
Silweta (silhouette in Tagalog) is based on a series of silhouettes of a traditional dance from the Philippines. Tracing a distant dance, Paz approaches her connection to the shapes and fills-in the silhouettes with her own movement - like imagining the action in petroglyphs. The work includes “Petroglyph” by Indigenous composer Brent Michael Davids. A digital dance of silhouettes made with Onome Ekeh will be incorporated within the performance.
Behind the shadows of a distant dance, Paz explores cultural connections, migration and displacement, gender and sexuality, mourning and loss. Inspired by text, including Dead Stars - a short story by Paz Benitez-Marquez, where the idea that light from dead stars still shine, can be a metaphor for lives lost and a loss of culture that still resonates in our communities and within our bodies. Silweta - brings to light edges of a distant dance, tracing the outer limits of our connected lives.
This performance is general admission with tiered ticket pricing. All are welcome!
