FREE OUT-DOOR PERFORMANCE WHITE WAVE YOUNG SOON KIM DANCE COMPANY Out-door performance with live music by TIAN JIANG (World Renowned Concert Pianist) Shanghai Dream (World premiere) described by World Music Reviews as a “…slice of heaven”. & 숯SSOOT II 숯SSOOT takes its name from a Korean word which literally translates as “charcoal” in English but is also used colloquially to mean “fresh energy.” Acclaimed nationally and internationally, Young Soon Kim’s choreography has been described as visually stunning and emotionally rich. Her 30-year career began as a brilliant performer, appearing at major festivals including American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow(USA) and Festival d'Avignon(France) and collaborating with music greats such jazz great Dave Brubeck. Since founding WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company in 1988, Kim and her company have traversed the globe, performing her repertory of 50 original works. In 2003, her artistry was documented in the film Arirang: The Korean American Journey/, aired nationwide on PBS. Since 2001, Kim has been a major presenter of contemporary dance in N.Y.C., producing festivals at WHITE WAVE John Ryan Theater. In addition to a new collaborative work with Tian, WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company’s presentation will include recent additions to Kim’s SSOOT Series. Originating in 2001 with her critically acclaimed 30th Anniversary Season at Dance Theater Workshop, the Series has been described by Backstage’s Lisa Jo Sagolla as “an extremely well crafted, visually stunning, emotionally rich work.” The Series takes its name from a Korean word which literally translates in English as charcoal but is also used colloquially to mean “fresh energy.” Kim’s passionate choreography expresses the inner conflict of humans mesmerized by the world’s sorrow and its undeniable beauty.

WORLD RENOWN CONCERT PIANIST TIAN JIANG Tian is recognized as one of the world’s most exciting virtuoso pianists. His critically acclaimed North American debut at Carnegie Hall, The New York Times wrote. “A formidable technique…shining, crisp, energetic and colorfully illuminated”. He first came to international attention when he appeared with Vladimir Ashkenaszy in a BBC film about his historic visit to China. In 1981, Tian is among one of the five young musicians to be chosen by Issac Stern came to US and took part as the very first culture exchange program between United States and China. He studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Juilliard School. Tian’s extraordinary gifts have brought him numerous honors, including prizes at the William Kappell International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn Awards. Captivating audiences from Europe to the Far East, he has been enthusiastically received in concerto appearances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Symphony orchestra, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Houston Symphony, The Orchestra of St. Luke’s, The Hong Kong Philharmonic, The Philippine Philharmonic, and the Central Philharmonic of China. In recital, he has performed throughout the world. As a recording artist, Tian has already seven CDs under his credit. His original composition “Shanghai Dream” described by World Music Reviews as a “…slice of heaven”.
