TIBET IN SONG - Award Winning Tibetan Documentary Opens in NY September 24th

September 24 – October 1, 2010
All Day
The award winning documentary Tibet in Song is both a celebration of the beauty of traditional Tibetan folk music and a heartbreaking tale of cultural exploitation and resistance. Rarely seen performances from inside Tibet of endangered songs about family, working and the grandeur of the land are deftly juxtaposed against startling footage of the early days of the Chinese invasion and the Dalai Lama’s flight into exile. Director and former Tibetan political prisoner Ngawang Choephel, who was imprisoned for recording the very songs at the center of the film, weaves a story of splendor, pain, brutality and resilience. Tibet in Song provides a raw and uncensored look at Tibet as it stands today, yet which is willing to fight for the existence of its unique cultural heritage. Winner of the Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Documentary, Tibet in Song opens in New York City on September 24th exclusively at the Cinema Village. www.tibetinsong.com
